Ziff Davis Enterprise, B2B technology’s trusted information and marketing resource, announced today that it has partnered with BTM Corporation to develop the new Baseline/BTM 500 report. This report quantifies and ranks how well the largest U.S. companies’ manage information technology to affect their financial performance.

The partnership represents a significant improvement to previous Baseline 500 methodologies and results. In previous years, Baseline used a complex model that measured IT productivity over a three-year span. The new methodology, developed exclusively by BTM, will measure current capability maturity and the effectiveness of business technology management. These measurements will provide a snapshot of how well a business is using technology and how well it makes technology decisions in support of the business.

“The convergence of business goals and technology is a powerful enabler of revenue and profit growth. Through our partnership with BTM, Baseline will provide a new standard by which companies can gauge technology’s effectiveness in building stronger businesses,” said Baseline editor Lawrence M. Walsh.

Most significantly, the new Baseline 500/BTM methodology will be repeatable, allowing subsequent rankings to show changes in a company’s management maturity model – a measure of an organization’s ability to effectively leverage technology for business purposes – and relevancy to financial performance.

“There are very few reports that garner as much attention or respect as those that highlight a pronounced monetary connection,” said Diana Mirakaj, senior vice president, Marketing and Corporate Development of BTM Corporation. “That’s why the BTM Institute’s team of cross-disciplinary practitioners and academics created an index that highlights the connection between corporate financial performance and business technology convergence.”

The BTM research team includes esteem academic members Dr. Krishna Palepu of Harvard University, Dr. Robert Zmud of the University of Oklahoma, and Dr. Vallabh Sambamurthy of Michigan State University. The team, led by BTM founder Faisal Hoque, also has several current and former business executives, including Carl Wilson, CIO of Marriott International, and Tom Trainer, former CIO of PepsiCo.

The Baseline/BTM 500 analysis is underway. The final report will be available in the October 2008 issue of Baseline magazine.
